Hey RVAers, back again this week with some pretty cool events for you to feast your eyes upon. And this time, a topic for you to weigh in on.
Who doesn’t love a good $2 Highball after a hard day’s work at their favorite watering hole? But wouldn’t it be nice if you could pop on Facebook or go online to find out which bar about town has the best happy hour?
It’s been against the law for bars and restaurants to advertise drink specials anywhere but inside their own joints since the mid-80’s in Virginia. Two years ago ABC laws granted them the privilege of a measly sign in front of their establishments stating that such thing as a happy hour even existed.
A bill was introduced into the Virginia Assembly earlier this year that would’ve made it legal for bar owners to post their specials on Facebook and their webpages.
It passed through the House, but was ultimately scrapped in February. Sobering news for all of us happy hour hunters. No need to reach for the Advil and sunglasses just yet though! Websites like The City Swig http://thecityswig.com/and RVA Specials http://rvaspecials.com/ are on the job keeping boozers and happy hour cruisers up to date with local specials so give those a peek before you head out next time.
Rockstar Rated is eager to find out where all of the boozers, beer chuggers, and casual sippers go to guzzle down their favorite cold one. What places around RVA have the best happy hours? The cheapest drinks? The most delicious frosty beverages? Let us know!
In the mean time here’s our drink of the week to keep you busy: Bluegrass Punch.
4 parts Basil Hayden's Bourbon
8 parts Blueberry Juice
8 parts Passion Fruit Juice
Sparkling Wine or Club Soda

Now wipe that drool off your laptop and go make it. Looking for something awesome to do this weekend instead of your usual routine of sticking to the couch with your PBR can, bag of Funyuns and searching creepy shit on Youtube? Of course you are.
The Downtown Artwalk Block Party is going down this Saturday from 4 to 8 p.m. For the classy folk, it is the celebration of the new arts and culture district. For those who need a better reason, there will be a Beer Garden, food trucks and the Richmond Comedy Coalition all in the 300 block of West Broad Street.
A little bit country? A little bit rock and roll? And feel the need to have your face melted off with lasers? Then I guess the Schneck-A-Palooza music festival on Saturday is for you. It’s a down-home gathering of local metal, indie, rock, and blues bands at the Garage Mahal in Mechanicsville. Check the lineup here: http://www.facebook.com/SchneckAPalooza
Don’t forget Cha Cha’s Cantina’s bartending competition finals are on Monday. We will post an update on that next week. Now get in there and learn how to mix some tasty shit!
Cheers,
Amy David
